6 reasons why you want to be your own boss

Why do people go into business in the first place. Much research and discussion is available however there are 6 main reason why you go into business and they are not bad reasons.

  1. I want to be the boss - The ultimate reason of them all, I can do it better than my current boss I am working for. I want to tell myself what to do not someone else telling me what to do. This is a grand reason and for all the right thinking. I have been my own boss for awhile but the one thing I find is who holds the boss accountable in a small business? This can be a reason why your new business doesnโ€™t flourish as well as it should. Could you be unaware of what you need to know to take to the next stage? Get someone to hold you accountable. Another area to beware of if you are coming straight out of corporate, it is hard to adapt to being a small business owner straight away. There is no structure or PA to do the small tasks for you. You now wear all the hats in the business and have to do everything. That can be a big adjustment.

  2. I need to make more money - Sometimes in life we need more money and the idea of having your own successful business sounds very appealing. It is often a long slow road to getting a new business to make you the money that perhaps you need. If you want $300k in the first year with no big investment, and just putting starting out, I think the expectations are not ideal and you wonโ€™t be happy with the results. Perhaps working a stable job and starting your new business off as a side hussle makes sense.

  3. Pursuit of Passion: Are you driven by a burning passion for your craft or a particular industry. You yearn to turn your hobbies or interests into a thriving venture. Whether it's baking artisanal cakes, designing innovative software, or crafting handmade jewelry, passion fuels your entrepreneurial spirit, propelling you to create something extraordinary out of what you love.

  4. Impact and Purpose: We often aspire to make a meaningful impact on our communities or the world at large. Are you driven by a sense of purpose, aiming to solve pressing problems, address unmet needs, or effect positive change through your businesses. Whether it's launching a social enterprise to tackle environmental issues or developing innovative solutions to enhance healthcare accessibility, you are driven by a deep-seated desire to leave a lasting legacy and create a better tomorrow.

  5. Flexibility and Work-Life Balance: Achieving a harmonious balance between work and personal life is a priority for many aspiring entrepreneurs. Do you seek the flexibility to prioritise your commitments, whether it's spending quality time with family, pursuing personal interests, or maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Entrepreneurship offers the flexibility to design one's schedule, work remotely, and adapt to changing circumstances, fostering a sense of equilibrium between professional and personal aspirations.

  6. Opportunity for Growth and Learning: Entrepreneurship is a journey of continuous growth, learning, and self-discovery. Many individuals are drawn to the challenge of navigating the complexities of business ownership, honing their skills, and expanding their knowledge across various domains. Do you relish the opportunity to embrace new experiences, overcome obstacles, and evolve as a leader, knowing that each setback and success contributes to your personal and professional development.

In conclusion, the decision to start a business is driven by a myriad of factors, ranging from passion and independence to financial aspirations and a sense of purpose. Regardless of the motivation, entrepreneurship offers a transformative journey filled with opportunities for innovation, impact, and fulfillment. Whether you're driven by a burning passion or a quest for financial freedom, embarking on the entrepreneurial path requires courage, resilience, and unwavering determination.
